Christie Stover, Head of School
Christie Stover is a Midwesterner at heart, having spent a considerable amount of time in Illinois and Ohio working in the field of school leadership. Having served as the Head of School at Applewild School in New England, Christie returns to the Midwest to lead Bergman Academy, bringing with her a considerable amount of administrative experience in independent schools like Bergman Academy. Christie holds her MA in Labor and Human Resources from Ohio State University and her BS in Secondary Education from the University of Illinois. Christie’s leadership reflects her belief that each member of our school community is valued, encouraged to grow, and welcomed in the educational process.
Marcy Luft, Vice-Principal
Marcy Luft began her teaching career at Bergman Academy in 2006, where she taught 1st and 6th grade for 10 years. Her passion for Bergman Academy’s small and dedicated teaching community led her to pursue an administrative license from Viterbo University. In addition to this, she holds her BA in English Language and Literature from Smith College and MST in Elementary Education from Drake University. Marcy believes in forging close relationships with students and families and helping to create a school culture that honors individuality, enthusiasm for learning, and authentic exploration of new ideas.
Katie Ewing, Director of Admissions and Marketing
Katie Ewing previously served at Bergman Academy as our Office Manager and is excited to lead Bergman Academy’s admissions and marketing efforts. Originally from Marshalltown, Katie attended Iowa State University and the University of Louisville where she earned her M.Ed. in Counseling Personnel Services. She loves reading, fitness, writing, and watching her children do what they love.
Becca Miller, Director of Enrichment
Becca Miller coordinates the enrichment and summer camp programs at Bergman Academy. She enjoys utilizing her background in elementary education, reading, and educational administration to facilitate engaging, dynamic afterschool and summer programs. Becca taught elementary education in South Dakota for 5 years, in addition to coaching cheer, dance, softball, and volleyball. Becca received her Specialist Degree in Education Administration and BA in Elementary Education from the University of South Dakota. Becca believes that enrichment programming is essential to developing the whole child, instilling in children key principles such as teamwork, leadership, intellectual curiosity, and resilience.
Melanie Owens, Financial Manager
Melanie Owens is entering her 15th year with the school, having started with the original Des Moines Jewish Academy. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing from Kansas State University.
