
Director of Development
Located in the heart of historic Greenwood Park in Des Moines, Bergman Academy is a secular, non-profit, accredited independent school providing preschool through eighth-grade education. With over 300 enrolled students, Bergman Academy students are encouraged to develop a love of learning, kindness and compassion, a respect for the natural world, independence and a strong understanding of self, combined with the pursuit of excellence, collaboration, global perspective, and a commitment to others.
Bergman Academy seeks an experienced professional to lead its development efforts. The Director of Development will serve as a part of the Leadership Team and have responsibility for ongoing fundraising and special event activities.
Key tasks will include managing and soliciting gifts for the Annual Fund, planning and executing larger-scale campaigns, organizing special fundraising events, cultivating donors throughout the Bergman Academy community, and nurturing our alumni base. The Director of Development reports directly to the Head of School, working closely with the Leadership Team and Board of Trustees as well.
Candidates should possess a B.A. degree, three or more years of non-profit fundraising experience, excellent written and oral communications skills, be highly organized and detail oriented, enjoy students and families, and be a team player.

Music Educator (General Elementary, Choral-Focused)
Bergman Academy is accepting applicants for a highly motivated, creative, intellectually engaged general elementary and choral-focused music educator for the 2023-2024 school year. This person will join our strong and talented Encore (specials) team. Bergman and the Encore Team seek a colleague who will inspire, nurture, and sustain students’ enjoyment of and appreciation for music of different cultures, styles, genres, and historical eras. A strong choral background is preferred, as is experience with Orff and/or Kodaly.
Major responsibilities and expectations will include:

Teaching general music classes to kindergarten through fifth grade

Creating and offering Middle Scholar Choice Classes (electives) in a variety of music-related topics

Presenting two grade-level performances each year (December and May) for kindergarten through fifth grade

Participating in the Middle Scholar Encore Showcase to display work completed in Choice classes each trimester

Culturally responsive choices are encouraged and supported through our school’s DEIJ department work and all-school diversity trainings

A stipend-paid option for an extracurricular band program which meets after school is also available.
The ideal Bergman Academy candidate will:

Hold a valid Iowa (preferred) teaching license with music education endorsement.
