Building Substitute (Ages 3 - Grade 8)

Divisions: Early Childhood, Lower School, Middle Scholars, Encore (Specials)
Reports to: Division Leader & Head of School
Position begins: Bergman is always looking for guest teachers!

 

Position Overview
When a member of our faculty needs to be away from the building, we rely on a skilled substitute to step in.  Bergman Academy is currently looking for engaging, reliable, and mission-driven Guest (substitute) Teachers for classes at all levels from preschool to eighth grade, in homerooms and Encore (Specials) classes. In this role, the Guest Teacher will cover for an absent full-time teacher, adhering to the day’s lesson plan and ensuring that students have a fulfilling learning experience. The ideal candidate will have an Iowa Teaching License or Iowa Substitute Teaching Authorization, substitute teaching experience, and an ability to lead classrooms effectively. The most qualified and successful substitutes can count on consistent work throughout the school year. Bergman Academy’s Guest Teacher pay is highly competitive with area school districts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute lesson plan consistent with teacher guidelines, classroom expectations, and school curriculum.

  • Establish an orderly classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience for all students.

  • Become familiar with school emergency protocols.

  • Adhere to all school policies and procedures.

  • Exhibit flexibility and patience in scheduling.

  • Demonstrate confidence and proficiency in giving instruction.

  • Have superb verbal and written communication skills.

Position Overview
Classes are intentionally small, with 16 students per class for K–8 and 9 students per teacher for our youngest learners. These small class sizes allow teachers to build strong relationships, tailor instruction to individual needs, and support meaningful personal growth. Teachers participate in division meetings, collaborate across departments, and work to ensure all students achieve their highest potential.
